An other nice square ! Mar 06, 2011
Named after the restoration of the Portuguese crown after 60 years under a Spanish king, this square has a monumental obelisk at its center to commemorate the event.
Surrounding it are a number of attractive buildings, including Palácio Foz, a beautiful 18th century palace that's closed to the public except for a space on the lower level which functions as one of the city's tourist information centers.
Next to it is one of Lisbon's emblematic funiculars, the Elevador da Glória which connects this part of town with Bairro Alto.
Facing it is the city's Hard Rock Café, housed in a former theater and always packed with tourists.
Some photos to have a look !

Good start of a walking tour Sep 14, 2010
Praça dos Restauradores is a fairly modern square, because in the year 1755 a large earthquake ruined a large part of Lisbon. The square and area around it have been completely rebuild. The square has a large obelisk and a very interesting building that has a garden with trees integrated in its façade. Another classical building that surrounds the square holds a Hard Rock Café.
Praça dos Restauradores has been named after the Portuguese Restoration war between Portugal and Spain, that began with the Portuguese revolution of 1640 and ended with the Treaty of Lisbon in 1668. The period from 1640 to 1668 was marked by periodic skirmishes between the Portugal and Spain, as well as short episodes of more serious warfare, much of it occasioned by Spanish and Portuguese entanglements with non-Iberian powers.
Praça dos Restauradores has a central metro station and is therefore a good start of a walking tour through Lisbon.
