This is a new thing in the downtown area. It has the vibe as if you are in a movie! With free outdoor concerts and bars that surround you, you are bound to have a good time. Each bar has a unique theme to it. This whole area has really built up. YOU HAVE to check out this area if you come into town. Read more about it at www.powerandlightdistrict.com

The P & L...The hottest spot in KC! Jul 13, 2008
The $800 million Power & Light District is one of the largest developments in the United States, encompassing nine square blocks in downtown Kansas City. The District is bounded on the east to Grand Boulevard, the south by Truman Road, west by Baltimore Street and to the north by 12th Street.

The District will link together the renovated Bartle Hall Convention Center, the new Sprint Center, offices, hotels, entertainment, cultural destinations and residential developments. Developed in partnership with the City of Kansas City and the State of Missouri, the $850 million mixed-use District will anchor $2 billion of complimentary development efforts in downtown Kansas City.

The combination of entertainment, retail, nightlife and residential with imaginative and innovative design will create a unique and vibrant neighborhood. The retail and entertainment portion of the Kansas City Power & Light District will feature the country's premier concepts such as Gordon Biersch Brewery, McFadden's Sports Saloon, Tengo Sed Cantina, Mosaic Lounge, Famous Dave's Barbecue, Jos. A. Bank, Bristol Seafood Grill, ChinaBAR, Vinino, Cosentino's Downtown Gourmet Market, AMC's flagship arts movie theater in the revitalized Empire Theater, and a 3,000 capacity live music venue in the Midland Theater.

Additional retailers that will service the burgeoning residential population in downtown Kansas City include: Latteland, GNC, The Fudgery, Polished, and Plaza Ford Ideal. The Kansas City Power & Light District will feature vibrant lighting and landscaping, outdoor seating for restaurants, and a permanent performance stage to provide live entertainment.

The Power & Light District will feature an eclectic mix of restaurants, entertainment venues, shops, boutiques, live music, theaters and additional unique amenities. Anchor tenants include such as locally owned Cosentino's Gourmet Market, AMC's flagship redevelopment of Empire Theatre into the Mainstreet Theatre, the revitalization of the Midland Theater into a 3,000 capacity live music and entertainment venue as well as the Bristol Seafood Grill.

In addition, the Power & Light District will include national anchor tenants such as Lucky Strike from Hollywood, CA which will be located in the Kansas City Live! block of the Power & Light District.

This place is a great place to go for the night scene. If you've been here before, you can appreciate all it has to offer. But if you were here a few years ago before the construction began, you will appreciate it even more. This area used to be run by drug pushers and prostitutes.

The Music and Entertainment District of Kansas City Jun 21, 2008
The Power and Light District of Kansas City is a must see when you visit Missouri. The Power and Light District, which is named after the famed Power and Light building, was originally to be called 'KC Live!', which is now incorporated into the district as a live music and entertainment district. It features over 8 city blocks of restaurants, nightclubs and bars, shopping, retail, and is located downtown, across from the Sprint Center

We had the best night life there during the unofficial Travbuddy Meet-Up I attended in June 0f 2008. The night vibe is enhanced by the many restaurants, pubs, music, and a culture that breeds a socialite life. Free outdoor concerts, live music to dance to and a crowd to give you the feeling of a party. Located close to the Sprint Center, it covers over nine blocks. In within are bars, restaurants, with varying themes. We particularly enjoyed the Irish pub where a performance of traditional Irish folklore was.

Even though it is a big center, it is kept in good check with security to ensure order and safety. I visited the Light district twice during the 2 day weekend. On the first day, we met at 'Howl at the Moon”, and on the second day, at the Irish Pub. Both highly recommended.

Best nightlife spot in KC Jun 06, 2008
This district is so nicely done and such a great attraction for Kansas City.

Situated over 9 square blocks with one side bordered by the Sprint Center and is defined by LED blue lights in all the trees within the area. This district is comprised of bars are all varieties (sports, country theme, Irish, dueling pianos, tattoo, etc.), restaurants to handle any craving, and an outdoor stage with free live music almost every night. It is free to enter into the area but, of course, dining and drinks are paid at each bar/restaurant.

The security here is pretty tight so if you have an expired drivers license no matter what your age is, or if you left it in the car, forget about getting in. Also, baggy pants and gang colors are not allowed in either.

If you dine here expect to pay $25 and up for an entree', however, if you just go for the adult beverages you don't have to spend a fortune here and it is a wonderful place to spend your afternoon and late into the night.

I have been here a few times now and have enjoyed a variety of events from live bands, to single musicians/singers, to a food chef's cookoff.

Oh, and go try the mechanical bull riding at Big Sky, it's hilarious!
