Huge selection of books- If you are an avid reader this is a place you must visit Dec 05, 2015
Powell's books boasts the title of "The biggest bookstore in the world", and for good reason. This place is gigantic. If you are looking for a specific book, they most likely will have it. They've got over one million in stock. They sell new books, used books, and out of print books. The number of books that they have in there is unimaginable. This place is a must stop for anyone visiting Portland. When you first walk in you will notice they have different areas of the store color coded by genre. They have the green section, the orange section, the red section, and so on. The store spans multiple levels over a city block. I could literally spend hours in this bookstore just browsing all the books they have. My most recent purchase I bought a book called Tokyo Adorned by Thomas C. Card. It's a book that showcases Tokyo street fashion. An interesting thing when I bought the book was that I recognized a top hat that I was going to buy for Christmas one year. It was a one-of-a-kind top hat from Kikirara Shoten. Somebody bought it before I did, and a few months later I saw someone in the book wearing the exact same hat which was really cool. 5 stars for Powell's books. This is a place you must visit.

Powell's City of Books Dec 21, 2014
Probably one of the largest and most well-stocked bookstores you'll ever visit. They basically have every random book you can think of (and will order it for you if they don't). The staff is always very friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic to have a conversation with you about a favorite author or book. I am not exaggerating when I say you could lose hours in that place...Just so much to look at! Luckily, the huge stack of books you'll inevitably get your heart set on will be quite cheap. A lot of the books are used and typically don't cost more than $10 (TOPS). Finish up with an espresso and pastry in the cafe, while you crack open one of your finds.

If awesome(ness) existed in the form of a book store this is it. Apr 08, 2011
Where to start, oh right if you like or love to read and or learn you will love powell's. I spent a lot of my time in the red and purple rooms myself. I am sure that you will have your own favorite room after visiting this four story mega book store/trade in center. Yeah thats right bring in some of your old or less interesting books and they may buy them from you for cash and or trade credit. Many of the books in powells are used, thus they are easy on the pocket book (you will save money). They also have good coffee and you can read in this area with out buying anything. Enjoy

Powell’s Bookstore in downtown Portland is one of the must see places while you are in Portland. Located in the Pearl District, Powell’s has been open since 1971 and has become one of the biggest and greatest bookstores on the planet. If you like to read this is where you belong, if you don’t you may want to skip it and hit the micro breweries instead. Powell’s is four floors and 77,000 square feet; a city block of literary fun! They have used and new books along with a rare books room and have books on almost every subject on the planet.

Because of the size of Powell’s it is very easy to get lost in the mazelike bookshelves, luckily there are maps in every room to help you find your way to your destination. Leave yourself a good 2 to 3 hours or more. It is so easy to lose time while in this mammoth bookstore. If you get hungry you can always grab a coffee or snack and sit down with a book as well.

Powell’s is a perfect way to spend an afternoon for leisure or to escape the rains of Portland. It is also a great place to meet a friend, study or just waste time. I can’t get enough of this place!

This is one of the most amazing and cool places in Portland! Are you the type of person that likes to hang out in bookstores for hours while you sip a vanilla soy latte and browse? Well, this is a match made in heaven, then! This is the biggest bookstore I have ever been to in my life (it's a whole city block!)! They don't just have a poetry section or a top shelf dedicated to anthropology or ancient civilizations- they have rooms! HUGE MASSIVE ROOMS with thousands of books including rare, out of print, new, used, you name it! The prices are all very reasonable. This store is overwhelming. I spent the most time in the art section because the slection they had was simply incredible. They also have a large coffee shop where they serve a large variety of coffee, espresso drinks, teas and food.
