Powell's Bookstore Reviews

Nov 29, 2007

Powell’s Bookstore in downtown Portland is one of the must see places while you are in Portland. Located in the Pearl District, Powell’s has been open since 1971 and has become one of the biggest and greatest bookstores on the planet. If you like to read this is where you belong, if you don’t you may want to skip it and hit the micro breweries instead. Powell’s is four floors and 77,000 square feet; a city block of literary fun! They have used and new books along with a rare books room and have books on almost every subject on the planet.

Because of the size of Powell’s it is very easy to get lost in the mazelike bookshelves, luckily there are maps in every room to help you find your way to your destination. Leave yourself a good 2 to 3 hours or more. It is so easy to lose time while in this mammoth bookstore. If you get hungry you can always grab a coffee or snack and sit down with a book as well.

Powell’s is a perfect way to spend an afternoon for leisure or to escape the rains of Portland. It is also a great place to meet a friend, study or just waste time. I can’t get enough of this place!
