a little bit of paradise Aug 26, 2012
The beaches of Italy, Honolulu and Miami may have lots of trees and white sand, but Powell Lake has heat, and lots of it. At the time I was there it was 109F, with humidity at 0%.

While this lake has sand in some areas, for the most part it's all rock. Fortunately it's not just ugly-colored rock. Here you see white rocks, green rocks, red rocks, orange rocks...it is beautiful. From the parking lot there's a boat ramp you follow, then walk to the lake beach. If you choose to walk further, you will find some secluded spots where you and a loved one may spend many hours having a good time.

When you're ready to head back, Antelope Point Marina is just a few minutes away and they have a floating bar with lots of food to choose from. It's surprising this place doesn't get more press given how beautiful it is.

PS. wear sandals, as the ground gets incredibly hot!
