Pottsville population is around 16,000, it is named for its founder John Pott who settled there in 1806. Author John O'Hara is from Pottsville and he refers to Pottsville in his books. The Irish mob Molly MaGuires have some history in Pottsville.

America's Oldest Brewery is located in Pottsville, it's the oldest brewery that is still working to date. David G. Yuengling, a German immigrant, chose the location of Pottsville for its large Irish and German immigrant population. The brewery is built next to a mountain with caves dug inside. Hand dug caves used to keep a constant 50 degree temperature year round so the beer can stay cool. During prohibition the government came and blocked the caves using brick walls. The brewery is still owned and operated by a Yuengling family member.

During our trip of Pottsville we only really had time to tour the Yuengling brewery. It was a really good tour, free of charge, and it included free samples at the end. Highly recommended for anyone.
