Potochi Potosi Reviews
Fun garantied Aug 02, 2011
Potochi is a small and simple cafe/restaurant where also peñas are held. The restaurant is located on a picturesque little square where Calle Millares and Calle Ayacucho come together; only a few 100 meters walk from the Plaza de 10. Noviembre.
There's a large but simple dining room with cute and colorful local table cloths. I cannot say how the tables are normally grouped, because at the time I ate there, the restaurant was almost exclusively booked for our group and hence 2 very large tables were set up.
There's a rather extensive menu with both Andes food and more international dishes. Service was very fast and efficient though this might also be due to the fact that we pre-ordered for the group.
The quinoa soup was very good and also the salads that fellow group members had looked more than decent.
I ordered lama steak with mashed potatoes as a main course. The potatoes were really tasty but the lama steak was not my thing. Though it was not fat, it had a big bone in the middle and it is somehow an acquired taste.
The band that played that night was named Xmanta. I was surprised to see a band of hip youngsters playing more modern music on traditional Andean instruments. It’s a nice change from the typical folkloristic performances.
The owner really tries his best to bring a party atmosphere into the restaurant and has a nice word for every customer. He sings and dances and makes sure everyone has a good time.
There's a bar too so it is possible to come and have just a drink while enjoying the music.
