Portsmouth Vacation Guide
Portsmouth, Rhode Island is a suburb of Newport and is the northern most town on Aquidneck Island. It is surrounded by mostly rough coastline on both sides being surrounded by the Naragansett Bay. This very old colonial farming town is still very much rural and residential containing undulating grassy pastures and scatetred woodlands. However, located about 30 minutes from Providence, 20 minutes from Newport and 45 minutes from Boston, it is in an ideal location. For the tourist visiting Newport, you would be most likely to make a day trip to Portsmouth to view a polo match, see "Green Animals" (pictured on the description page) or to play golf on one of its many, links-style courses.
