Portorož is Slovenia's only mass-market resort on the Adriatic, the name means "Port of Roses". Trieste (Trst) in Italy is about 30 minutes away, while the distance to the Slovenian capital Ljubljana is about 1-1.5 hours. The very helpful tourist office is on the main coastal strip, Obala Marsala Tita, just down from the bus terminal.
A sprawling resort that by the end of the nineteenth century was already known for its mild climate and the health-inducing properties of its salty mud baths. Soak in the Portoroz springs and mud baths or walk among the natural beauty of the cypresses, and enjoy the smell of rosemary and bay all around.
Walking along to the north of Portorož offers some good sceneries albeit full of high rise hotels.The promenade of Portorož is Obala: along several kilometres. There is also a small international airport in nearby Sečovlje. If you choose Portoroz as the basis for your trip, do not forget to visit the surroundings: coastal cityes Piran, Izola and Koper.
