Genuine London Notting Hill Treasure! Aug 04, 2012
"Portobello road, Portobello road,

Street where the riches of ages are stowed.

Anything and everything a chap can unload

Is sold off the barrow in Portobello road.

You’ll find what you want in the Portobello Road!"

...including Bed knobs & Broomsticks!

Living 2 mins away means I am so spoiled. Character, charm and a cornucopia of commerce! From fruit & veg; to Felafel & Fashion; Furniture...and FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD!!! For me it's straight to my absolute Favourite Food stand - Jollof Pot! West African cuisine Spinach & Egusi with Jollof Rice & Bean stew - means my Saturdays are SORTED!

Attack Tip - Fuel up here first then burn it all off by browsing the rest of the market - a good 2 miles worth! Market fresh fruit for dessert or... head to Churros Garcia...if you have belly room! Then head to the far south end to see the house where George Orwell lived.

A mass of the unique and wonderful Mar 28, 2011
Portobello Road: There's nothing else like it. The main market days are Friday and Saturday. Jewellery, Antiques, Food, clothes, artwork, music, and masses of people flowing down this 1+ kilometre long street.

I've lived minutes from this market street for 2 years now, and my tip to beat the crowd is: use tube stations Westbourne Park, or Ladbroke Grove, not Notting Hill Gate, as this one is always heaving with people on the weekend. You will thank me for this tip! :)

Sunday is also a popular market day, but it runs at less than 30% of capacity. It doesn't sound like a lot, but given that Saturday and Friday probably have a thousand stalls, you should still thoroughly enjoy the cultural experience.

There are a wide range of prices. I often enjoying walking down the street without buying anything. The disciplined are welcome to do the same. Bargaining is acceptable to some market traders, but save the real haggling for Camden Market. Review soon. :)

Retains character of london , but miss it and you wont be too bothered.. May 09, 2011
Walked through this finally on a trip to the centre one weekend.

To be honest if your expecting the same character of "portabello road" from Bedknobs and Broomsticks you will be disappointed.

However it still retains some of its charm, but if you miss it on your trip I wouldnt be too worried.
