This ‘Porto Palafitico’, unique in Europe, is located in a small fishing village called Carrasqueira, on the left bank of the River Sado and integrated in the natural reserve of the Sado Estuary.

The pier of Carrasqueira, masterpiece of folk architecture, is built of irregular wooden stakes buried into the mud. This serves as a dock landing for the fishing boats, which sometimes are buried in the mud, sometimes in the water, depending on the tide. Along the pier are several small houses built of wood that serve as a storehouse for the anglers.

Here is possible to see an amazing sunset and be in contact with nature.
