Porto, Corse - Camping Reviews

Too small to be called a town- a couple restaurants and a market, but it’s the last glimpse of the sea before the road gets pushed inland by the Scandola Reserve. An entire cap of the island is inaccessible to humans by land. It's a reserve so that the animals can keep one corner 'sauvage' without fear of being fished or shot after.
There is a campground just north of 'town,’ off the main highway, down a dirt road. The campsites are in the bush and covered by trees making the campers most coveted late morning shade. The grounds a little rocky but the bathroom and showers are nice. The toilets actually had toilet seats! Trust me, after a month of the hole in the floor toilets, it was truly exciting. There's a beach. Our own little cove. It couldn't have been more than a couple 100 feet long and we always had it to ourselves. The tourists stick to the cities and the dozen residential houses on the entry road didn't seem to visit our little rocky paradise either. The water was more than 20 foot visibility and the fish composed a sparking dance below us. We ate at the single restaurant on the beach. It was a sanglier dish. Surly fresh because you can hear the wild boars at night. The meat melted in our mouths. My ecstatic memory of this meal could be attributed to the prior month of cheese, tuna and baguette diet. Out of all the camping throughout Corsica, throughout all of France, this little spot just north of Porto was my favorite. It was secluded. You couldn't hear the road a mile behind the trees. It had all the necessities of a campground; shade, free toilets and showers, a market and the sound of the sea at your bedside. There were boats to rent and explore the Jurassic like reserve of Scandola. And it was pretty cheap. Of course if at all possible you should defiantly go to Corse in the OFF SEASON because it has very tight roads and limited space in all the tiny towns.
