Excerpt from my travel blog on blogspot:Talk about HOTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!I went hiking with Tammy the morning after I got to Oregon. What a beautiful hike! This place was awesome, it had waterfalls all over the place. Everywhere we walked, I would hear the rumblings of water. It felt a "peaceful serenity" soundtrack or something. It was so nice. The weather was perfect - at a nice calm breezy 75F degrees. I wish hiking in NY was this divine. It also helps to that I was hiking with a wonderful …

The Oregon Coast
posted by:
Apr 03, 2008 - Apr 15, 2008
For two nights I stayed in Portland with an Alaska-friend of mine, Kevin Minto. He grew up in Oregon so was thrilled to guide me to the coast for a full day. The weather was clear and sunny (which I am told is rare) and made for a great afternoon. We visited Kevin's parents near the coast, ate samples at the Tillamook Cheese Factory and at the Tillamook Country Smoker, then enjoyed various stops at beaches and overlooks along the coastline. Several times we hiked beyond the parking overlooks …

My sister was DONE (overdone) with living in El Paso, Texas! She invited me to fly down from Portland, pack up the Ford Focus with some light boxes, the two of us, two kids, and "Bunny" the hampster. We left El Paso, and set out across the southern deserts of New Mexico, Arizona, and California on I-10. Then, headed north on I-5 through California's Central Valley, the southern Oregon Siskiyous, and the Willamette Valley to Portland. (Tracie and the kids continued on to settle in Seattle.)

Way to early Saturday morning Ida picked me up and we hit the road! We had plan a small (just two days) road trip to Portland....a lot of people had asked us: " Why Portland?" and we always answered that we just wanted to get away and see something ! So we really didn't had any specific plans or thing to see. First stop was Mount st. Helen's a active volcano that erupted in the 1980 and has been growing since. Has we climbed the road the weather was crap - all fog. There were even snow …

I arrived in Portland in the afternoon. My friend Kert picked me up and drove me to the dealership where the new addition of my family was waiting!! Once we picked up my truck we drove to his house in Eagle Creek to drop of his vehicle and start our adventure!  We made it to Tacoma, WA that night. I wanted to stay the night at my friends’ house. So that's what we did. SUPER FUN! We bought beer and watched the Family guy.........

Ah, the Peoples Republic of Portland.  The weather is consistent with most places in the Pacific Northwest, with relatively cool summers, and endless rain in the winter.  If you are looking for snow, head to the mountains just to the east, which offer several good ski areas, including Mt Hood Ski Bowl and Timberline.  These turn into good places for camping, hiking, and wildlife in the summer. With some type of annual festival happening each month, it would be wise t…
