Portabelle Court Apartments Saint James Reviews

West Coast Delight: Affordable, Clean and Safe May 19, 2011
On this trip to Barbados, my aim was to stay on the West Coast where the beaches are quite tranquil. However, I had difficulty locating a place on the West Coast to stay at the last minute and that would not cost me a substantial amount on money. After speaking with TravBuddy WaterSportsMan (aka: Neal), I decided on the Portabelle Court Apartments, located in St. James, Barbados that he recommended. The self-catering apartment is located in the quiet and safe residential neighbourhood of Porters, St James and cost $300 US per week. Upon my arrival from Grantly Adams International Airport, I was greeted by Stephen, who took the time to go over the particulars of the apartment with me.

Apartment #1 was quite large and clean. The bedroom was spacious, with a queen size bed, air-conditioner, ceiling fan, large double wardrobe (that contained extra linen and towels), telephone, and an iron with an ironing board. The bath has a walk-in shower, toilet and sink. The kitchenettes/living/dining area contained a four burner stove with an oven, fridge/freezer, coffee maker & kettle, toaster, coffee maker, utensils, pots, cups, plates, dining table with four chairs, ceiling fan, chair, soft, love seat, coffee table, microwave, TV, cable box, DVD player. While there is no maid service, I had no problem maintaining the apartment and the wireless internet worked beautifully. A laundry room is located on the ground floor and outside clothes lines are provided for drying your clothes. All the windows in the apartment have insect screens and security bars, on many occasions I left the windows open while at the beach or out-and-about town.

Within walking distance from the Portabelle Court Apartments, you’ll find the Lone Star Restaurant and the Royal Pavilion Hotel. Porters Beach is within a few minutes walk from the Portabelle Court Apartments; there you’ll find various kinds of water sports activities. I experienced no problems walking to and from the beach.

Since public transportation is very reliable and inexpensive on Barbados’ West Coast, a car is not necessary if you are staying in the Porters, St. James area. I would however recommend renting a car to venture into the inland areas of the island where public transportation is scarce. Portabelle Court Apartments does have parking available and external lighting. The public blue busses and yellow mini-buses are located on the main road, and runs quite often and will take you either to Holetown (grocery store, banks, bars, cafes), or Bridgetown (Duty Free shopping) or to Speightstown for $1US or $2BBds.

Please check the website (www.portabellecourt.com) for specials.

I look forward to my next visit to Barbados and staying at the Portabelle Court Apartments.
