Port'Alba Antica Pizzeria E Ristorante Naples Reviews
The oldest pizzeria in the world Apr 13, 2010
Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba was the first pizzeria in the world, and has produced pizzas since 1738. They have quite a broad range of meals rather than just pizza, and we very much enjoyed the service. Most of all, though, we enjoyed the food.
The "Pizza Doc" was the best pizza I have ever had - and I am a big pizza fan. It was essentially a margherita made in the classical style (they also have a normal margherita on the menu - you could taste the difference), with the highest quality tomatoes and mozzarella from water buffalo. Every mouthful was bliss - just amazing stuff, beyond description. The crust was gorgeous, almost like naan bread - very thin dough cooked very hot and very briefly.
I also tried a slice of the margherita - excellent - and the eggplant parmesan, a twist on a pizza I haven't seen before. Both were excellent, but excellent like the best pizzas I've had in other places, the Pizza Doc was in its own league.
