Manaus port Oct 24, 2013
Manaus Port stretches in the front of the city. Coming from the river we were greeted by large tankers and array of oil tanks on the hill above the city. In the front of the port few gas pumps float on the river for the easier boat filling. Needles to say that lots of oil floats around this pumps and that in general this big city is a ecological catastrophe, but let’s talk about the port.

As a major city in the middle of the incredible Amazon, this place has large docks for all kinds of boats. Port is integral part of the city and it breathes with it pretty well. Whole area around the port is some kind of free trade zone that stimulates the trade. Primarily there are hundreds of wooden plated river boats that carry passengers all over the area. It is fairly easy to find the boat that will take you to the next destination. Most of the dock entrances have stalls with images of the boats and the destinations/times of the departures.
