Poppys Café Tirau Reviews
Good for a quick bite when travelling with kids Jan 01, 2011
Poppys Café is situated at Main Road in Tirau – easily to find especially with those big red corrugated poppy blossoms above the entrance.
After choosing your table, either in front of the café besides the road, in the café itself or in the backyard under a gazebo, you go to the counter and order your preferred food and beverages. Even though their are items on the menu which can just be ordered either for breakfast or lunch there are still enough sweet and hearty snack foods such as cakes, muffins and pastries and complete dishes like burgers or salads with chips you can choose from. A special children's menu is available but there is not such a thing like an additional menu for vegetarians.
The food itself isn't the best or fanciest ever but still perfectly good – I'd grant a point for the nice fruit muffin served either with cream or yogurt and the proper caramel slice. On the other hand our ordered coffee and milkshake weren't that satisfying due to a lack of full-flavoured taste.
The staff is friendly and the service is fine but you could surely notice some missing professionalism since drinks are served a bit spilled and the waitresses seem to be little disoriented.
What I really liked about Poppys Café is that it's definitely a family-friendly and especially child-friendly place. Kiddies won't get bored as activity areas for children are well-integrated in the café. And for the youngest guests there are high chairs to sit in.
To sum up, I can say that Poppys Café is a fair average café with a nice selection of food and probably particular recommendable for families because of a very relaxed atmosphere.
