Poplar Grove Plantation Wilmington Reviews
Poplar Grove Plantation Sep 19, 2011
Poplar Grove Plantation in Wilmington is a non-working peanut plantation just a few minutes north of Wilmington. You essentially need to purchase tickets to go into any of the buildings on the plantation grounds, and the ticket will also give you a tour of the great house.
I always thought that plantation houses were these really big houses, so imagine my surprise when I saw that it was actually smaller than the house that I grew up in on a northern farm. Granted, the decorations of the house were much more elegant than the house I grew up in.
Photography inside the great house is prohibited. You can also check out the other buildings on the ground, including the kitchen (scaled back), the smokehouse, the blacksmith, the weaving shop, the farm building, the tenant building (rebuilt from old slave quarters), and then some animals.
