So with my plans to make it to Pasto foiled I decided to stay in Popayan for the carnaval which was supposed to begin on the 5th and 6th, with the 5th being black day and the 6th being white day. The carnaval has its origins in the days of slavery when slave owners would allow their slavees to dress up as them by painting themselves white and the owners would show their approval in turn by painting themselves black. We have been in Popayan for the last 3 days. It is so pretty at night time, and has a lot of good shopping. We have pretty much been chilling out since we have been here. watching movies and lazying around. It's a great place to do have a holiday from the holiday, more so because of the hostel we are staying in called Hostel Trail which is run by a Scottish couple. Super friendly and really clean. In fact I would say it's the cleanest hostel we have stayed in. Really impressed!We are off to S...

Back home to colombia... I usualy make this trip every other year. this time i started in Bogota than went to Popayan and from there Cali.

My trip back to NZ via South America

Dank des Ecuadorianischen Botschafters in Berlin, der Katha ihr Voluntaers-Visum verweigerte musste sie Ecuador verlassen und ich hatte die Ehre inne, ihre Reisebegleiterin spielen zu duerfen :) Also machten wir uns am 1.Dezember 2007 auf in unser Abenteuer! 17 Tage lang reisten wir durch dieses wundervolle Land, 17 Tage voller Busfahrten (aneinander gerechnet 4 1/2 Tage), voller Militaerkontrollen, Achsenbruechen, toller Museen, der Karibik und den wunderschoensten Anden! During my studies I did 2 missions of 3 months each in Colombia as part of a joint project between the University of Geneva and the Colombian Geological Survey. The objective was to study one particular aspect of the formation of the Andes, in the South of the country, between Cali and Pasto. That was a perfect way to discover a new country, practice a new language; a great opportunity to get to know the warm Colombian people, and drive thousands of kilometers in the most remote Andean areas.

I´m spending around 1 year in South America, I´ve had an amazing time. Enjoy my pictures.
