down the rabbit hole of traditional Japanese cuisine Jul 17, 2009
先斗町: Very narrow alley, easy to miss. Dozens of tiny traditional restaurants, tea shops and inns are located here. There is such an atmosphere of old time Japan, I love it. There are so many tiny details to discover in the shop fronts. Some of the restaurants on the east side of the alley have porches overlooking the river. Make sure the restaurant has a menu posted outside before you go in, lest you inadvertently choose a very pricey geisha house.

To wander is free, but to eat can be from moderate price to extremely expensive. Be careful!
