Unusual and impressive, it is the highest lift bridge in the world !

It goes across the Seine.

This bridge was opened a year ago, in 2008, after 3 years of building. Inhabitants of Rouen choose to name it after Gustave Flaubert, a French XIX century novelist, who was born in Rouen and who is one of the greatest novelists, as you may know Madame Bovary (1857).

It is the 6th port of Rouen. It cost 60 million euros to build it.

It was needed to link motorways to the port zone of Rouen, without having to go throuth the town centre.

A lift-bridge design was needed to still allow big and magnificient ships to reach Rouen for the Armada, an important event taking place in Rouen every 5 years.
