Ponoka Stampede Reviews
Largest 7 Day Rodeo in Canada - Ponoka Alberta Dec 13, 2009
I've been going to the Ponoka Stampede for longer than I can remember. It is an event that brings over 70,000 people from all over Canada, United States and even internationally. Most people hear of the Calgary Stampede, also held annualy two weeks after the Ponoka Stampede, but the Ponoka Stampede Ranks 2nd to the Calgary Stampede as the best show in Canada. It is also considered the largest 7 day rodeo in Canada.
In 2010, Ponoka will host the 74th annual Ponoka Stampede begining June 28th - July 4th.
Within these days you will see rodeo action and chuckwagon races at it's best. Cowboys and cowgirls travel from all over Canada and the United States to compete in this large and popular event.
Along with the top class rodeo action, you can also see an amazing line up of talented singers and muscians in the Stage Coach Saloon and on the Main Stage Performance night.
Ponoka is a big fan favourite too and resembles the Calgary Stampede in its younger days for its festive atmosphere, top-class competition, professional chuck wagon races and kids’ wild pony races.
Our town practically triples when Stampede time comes around and is incredible for our local business owners. During the Ponoka Stampede, free camping is available to campers with non hook ups, and pricing for other campsites with hookups are located on the Ponoka Stampede Website. Campers can start arriving as early as 3 weeks prior to the towns main event. Despite our small town, we do also have a variety of hotels and motels which do fill up quickly.
There are also a variety of resturants, fast food joints and grocery stores to fill you up when you are not up at the Fairground eating mini donouts or in the Stage Coach Saloon.
Also on the stampede grounds there is a midway with over 20 rides for adults and childrens and plenty of games to win prizes from.
This event is excellent for all ages. Children love the midway activities and the rodeo action. As do adults and seniors. For the older crowd there are beer gardens nightly with entertaiment and a dance floor to show off your two stepping abilities, or learn for the first time. And don't miss out on the parade as it is alot of fun. July 1st is Canada Day so stay up for some fireworks! And also listen around for information regarding daily pancake breakfest to cure that morning hangover from a fun night before.
