In the morning - after breakfast - i decided not to visit first the city of Napoli and save it for the afternoon but to head straight to Pompei - to see the ancient city destroyed by Vesuvio volcano. I took the suburban metro train (Circumvesuviana - is the running company) from main station Garibaldi - but if u want to enjoy the ride sitting it would be better to go back one station to the terminus of Circumvesuviana - with any train from the same platform - that way you will avoid the many …

We got to the train station a little early to get our seat reservations but had some problems with the language barrier. We thought the ticket seller told us to wait 30 minutes and then our tickets would be 5 Euro instead of 20. That would only give us 6 minutes to run to the train. We thought this was odd but as we watched other people in line, many of them got their tickets and dashed off to the trains. Maybe they knew about this Italian custom and we did not. …

So I arrived in Naples on Thursday after a very long day of travel from London. From the airport it was a quick bus ride to the central train station, which is near my hostel. I definitely was out of my comfort zone in a big way for the first time! And Naples is really the armpit of Italy as far as I can tell.
Anyway, I followed the directions to the hostel from the website, which took you way around out of your way even though it was a straight shot down from a…

Our time on the Amalfi Coast finished, Milton and I headed to nearby Pompei. The most remarkable thing about the Pompei area and Naples is just how much Mt Vesuvius dominates the landscape. I'm not quite sure how I would like living so close to what is essentially an active volcano, but it does make for some excellent views. So, after getting a little lost along the way, we pitched up to the ruins of the former city of Pomei. Naturally there is an entrance fee to get in, but beyond this …

Before going into the ruins take plenty of water and wear good shoes. We saw someone with a wheel chair in there they had to be carried out. This is a picture takers dream Figure on spending at least 4 hours to cover everything. There are resturants across the street, plenty of shops nearby in Pompei City and the train station is about a 30 minute walk but we shopped on our way back to the train station. A must see to anyone who goes to Italy

Visiting Pompei was in my mind since the first time I thought about going to Italy. So, it was time to do it.
In order to go to Pompei I took a train to Napoli. From Napoli I took Via Vesubiana to go to Pompei. The whole trip took about 3hrs. It was a good idea starting it early.
The Via Vesubiana was full with people. It reminded me to Lima… hahaha. Also a man started to sing and then asked for some change. Am I in Lima? Hahaha
Finally I arrived to Pompei and…

At some point - possibly Troy I think - we'd got a bit ruins'd out. Basically, they all look much the same. I guess if you're seriously into your archeology you'd probably enjoy spotting the particular features of different places, but to the untrained eyes wondering around, one fallen down wall looks much like another. Pompeii was supposed to be a bit different, a bit special. With the surviving frescoes, and the sudden preservation of the city after the eruption - as well as the people - it…

As Danielle had never seen Pompei and me,never Ercolano, before going to our accomodation in Furore,we did a short visit of the crowded Pompei and lazed longer in the AMAZING and less touristy Ercolano.
