When we got off the bus we were harangued by a couple of blokes with a tuktuk who wanted to sell us dodgy tickets for entrance to the sites. We declined and went to buy real ones from the museum.

The Gal Viharaya (rock temple) and the statue of one of Polonnaruwa's great kings, Parakramabahu, are a few of this capital's memorable sights. This time I have managed to visit this facinating archeological place after long time.
Among many sites my favourite site was the Gal Vihara (Rock Temple). For my eyes they are the truly most beautiful Buddha images in Sri Lanka . Four images of different sizes are carved out of a cliff about 56 yards long and falls awa…

11th Century AD - 13th Century AD)
The second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu I, who defeated the Chola invaders in 1070 CE to reunite the country once more under a local leader. While Vijayabahu's victory and shifting of Kingdoms to the more strategic Polonnaruwa is considered significant, the real Polonnaruwa Hero of the history books is actually his grandson, Parakramabahu I.

Over the past couple of years I have travelled a lot and I have taken many pictures from all over the world. As I do not have time to write blogs I decided to post a selected range of pictures here. up-date will be done not regurarly but from time to time. Please note some pictures have not the best quality as older (1997 - 2000)ones are basically scanned negatives. Should I mixed up any place or so please let me know. Looking forward to any comment or hint. Have fun and enjoy!
