The first stop of my 3-leg journey was Warsaw, Poland. I used to live in Warsaw in 1997, while working for the startup mobile phone company Era GSM. (I was in business school at Dartmouth College at the time, and working for Era GSM was my summer intership - arguably the best summer of my life.)
So 2007 marked my 10-year anniversary. I had to go back to visit Warsaw, and more importantly to see some old friends, including a dear ex-girlfriend (now mar…

The day began at around 8am when we took the coach from Czestochowa to Zakopane, this took about five hours because of the traffic but hey, we got there in the end! We didn't have any accommodation booked so on arrival in Zakopane but had heard that there are private rooms available for rent at between 40 to 50 PLN per night. As soon as we stepped off the coach we were swamped by hoards of locals who had spare rooms available at reasonably cheap rates. We went for a lit…

Another day another city! If not exactly true, thats certainly how it feels. Before launching into a whole blog about Krakow, I though I'd to just a few things about different thoughts that have occured to me over the past few days.First of all is, once again, the language issue. When we went up to Warwel Castle the other day we met a Polish couple (on their honeymood) and were chatting away to them. The lady was an English teacher and I felt so ignorant that she, like…

We're in the airport waiting for our flight VV4751 on Aerosvit Ukrainian Arilines to leave. This is an exciting trip for me, as was Lithuania, beacuse theya re places that I never expected to be able to visit. It's amazing, I think that half of the Spaniards in Warsaw are heading to the same place - there are at least 7 or 8 on the same flight as me! Some of them live in the same building I do and work in the same building I do... quite a coincidence.
There are a number of …

Poprostu pięknie...! I tak się rozpoczeły moje wakcje. Dwa dni spedzilismy nad Jeziorem Solińskim odpoczywając po ciężkim semestrze. Kolejne dni spedziliśmy chodząc po górach podziwiając piękne widoki...!

My very first, inital reasons to visit Poland and Krakow in particular were to experience Auschwitz as it stands today. For reasons unknown, the Holocaust is a part of history that I have always been intrigued and moved by, hence my expression of intrest to the most notorious of all Nazi deathcamps. Of course any keen traveller will rejoice in the excuss to research a inpending foreign destination; I for one love nothing more than spending hours on the internet lookin…

What do you expect from a country for whom communism isn't such a
distant memory? From a country where 20% of the population were killed
in World War 2?
I'm not a historian by any means, I didn't go to Auschwitz or any museums, but in Warsaw, history is just there.
I speak a little German and I thought I might make that useful here -
but I was advised not to even try because although a lot of young
people speak it, the older population is still frightened of the sound.
Warsaw is ve…

Berlin is like how a woman is to a man. (Not that I am supposed to know, but I have been brainwashed by the media). It amazes me, fills me with awe and wonder, but suffocates me sometimes. It is complicated. It is a love-hate relationship. So sometimes, I need to get away. So.After my inter-cultural management exam (for dummies, understanding "typisch": why most Asians eat noisily and such), change my mental frame of mind, and I'm back to being an excited child at the …

Greek has been on my list of places to visit for as long as I remember, but I've never had the opportunity. This trip won't give me much opportunity to see the archaeological treasures that I dream of visiting, but will be a great chance to get to know Corfu, and have a few warm, sunny relaxing days away from the routine here in Warsaw.

Early wake-up at 6am so we would make it to the train, then airport in time. Found some bread rolls to have for brunch whilst we were waiting in the boarding lounge. Finally got on the plane to leave, and were told (after being seated for 15mins) that there were problems on the runway so we would be departing an hour later than planned.. We all snoozed on-and-off, and finally got in the air. Arrived safely back into London Stanstead, and eventually back to our new flat in London.. A very earl…
