Warsaw, day 1: Getting there...

Warsaw, Poland -› -› ...
I hardly slept again. This time courtesy of 1 mosquito. I spent most of the night chasing after it, much to the annoyance of the neighbours. So, 6:30am found me in the breakfast lounge in a rather foul mood and itching all over. The one thing I forgot to pack: insect repellant. Great!I took off at 7:30am, walked east like the previous day, but now turned right on Nowy Swiat instead of left and walked down to Plac Trzech Krzyzy (try saying that 3 times in a row, or just once for that matter). ...

Dear readers, Yesterday at 17.30 I arrived at Elblag trainstation. I thought everything went well. I had a nice trip and a list of hotels and youth hostels with me.. However, I quickly discovered that almost al polish people don't speak english or german. Some of them couldn't even find their hometown on the map I showed them :) So after walking and searching for three hours I discovered that I was looking for a non existing youthhostel. I headed for my last option, stop a taxi, an...

Weekend in Kraków
posted by:
Jul 27, 2007 - Aug 14, 2007
27/7 - We got train tickets for the train at 18.05 from the central train station in Warsaw to Kraków Głowny.  We bought weekend train tickets - they're good for travel anywhere in Poland from Friday afternoon through midnight Sunday.  It's important to keep in mind that in addition to the weekend train ticket you also need to buy seat reservations for the specific train that you want to take.  The train was about 45 minutes late in leaving, but we were on our way to Kraków ...

18th - 22nd July 2007 - The Siege of MalborkLast time I saw The Seige of Malbork was 6 years ago. It lasted 3 days over the weekend and was a great fun for locals mostly. I was amazed to see what this one grew to become. It is now described as a meeting with knights, craftsmen and traders from around the world. And it trully is. Fair of medieval craft, workshops in ceramic village, plebeian folk games, knight competitions, dragon boats races, fireshows, an outdoor cinema, exhibitions and lectu...

People i met here who contributed to, and improved my trip: Ania (Poland) I was sad to leave Ukraine but excited to be heading back to Poland. Last time i was in Krakow, i made a freind called Ania so it was going to be nice to meet up again after 3 years. Having seen the sites around Krakow before, this trip was more about reforming old friendships and just hanging out. It was also a chance to recover from a minor bout of food poisoning, in preperation for the Heineken music festival...

First stop - Nałęchów
posted by:
Aug 15, 2008 - Sep 08, 2008
August 15th is a holiday here and we have a three day weekend. It's a great chance to do some more exploring. This time we're going to head east to Lublin, Zamosc and into Ukraine to the city of L'viv.  We're sitting in a café close to the Malachowski Palace having a coffee (well, Ana is having a coffee - I'm having chocolate...) and enjoying a rest after driving for a few hours from Warsaw.    This is a small spa town, with some mineral springs that were discovered in the ...

Day First and Last
posted by:

We thought a road trip was a good idea. So it is 1000km from Riga, no big deal. On the way there we stopped for my birthday dinner in Wroclaw, Poland. We could feel the city was nice but we couldn't see anything because of heavy rain mixed with snow. We just walked on the main street of old town and headed to Prague. On the way back we were torn apart. Should we go to Czestochowa or back to Wroclaw? We picked Wroclav and we did not regret it. The weather was great, sunny and quiet, there...

Peace and quiet - Kazimierz Dolny / August 2005 : Kazimierz Dolny Travel Photos

The story starts one evening in Warsaw. We were hanging out with my friend Asia and it turned out we are both bored of the capital city :P What to do..... what to do.... Some quick research on-line and we've discovered that these are the last days of a film fest in Kazimierz Dolny and on Sunday - the very last day - there were 2 cool movies we definitely had to see. "Howl's Moving Castle" by Hayao Miyazaki (for me) and "Motorcycle Diaries" (for Asia). Since we had a train to catch ab. 6AM and...

After our sightseeing we returned to our friends' home for lunch - Sauerbraten!  which was really delicious, and knudeln, potatoes, green beans, carrots...  After lunch Jürgen and Magda took us to the train station.  The Berlin Hauptbahnhof is one of the newest train stations in Europe and is really spectacular.  Mostly made of glass and metal, it is a multileveled station with shopping and restaurants.  Our train back to Warsaw arrived just on time and we were on ...

Day 1 - Warsaw
posted by:
Sep 23, 2007 - Oct 12, 2007
So today I woke up in time to partake of the free breakfast included with the cost of my room... judging by the limited selection of stale cereal and instant coffee I had to choose from, I'm convinced that "free" translates to "shitty" in Polish when used to describe a meal.  After sucking down some stale cheerio-like cereal and a cup of insta-coffee I headed out to see some museums and such.  My first stop was at the Fryderyk Chopin museum.  Using my old UTSACard to score a st...

Krakow - The Land of King Krak!

It was dark outside, and with the drizzle, the streets of Krakow didn’t look particularly inviting. We headed towards the Old Town, a place noted for its bars and restaurants. After only a hundred yards or so, Jodie stopped walking. “I don’t like this. I’m not getting good vibes.”    “What do you mean?” I said.    “Look!” gestured Jodie, water dripping from her hair. “Everything’s dark and dingy. It seems…unfriendly.” We wandered on. &...
