How did the mountains made me realise

After a very tough time in my life, I decided to go to Nepal for a few weeks. The most amazing time I spend there was doing the Annapurna Sunctuary Trekking. Being apart from many luxuary, that I was used to, didn't feel like taking a step back. It felt like the start of a whole new beginning for me. Going back to basics and experiencing real and pure love, coming from inside. I met myself, and I'm still exploring.

Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

Today I try to explore the other 2 lakes at Pokhara.  To reach these I need to take a local bus to Begnas Bazaar which turns out to be easier that I had expected, though the 15Km trip takes 45 minutes.  Begnas is a small town, a popular spot for Nepalese, there are hire boats on the lake, but appears to be pretty much ignored by foreigners.  I hike up the road from Begnas hoping for a reasonably view of the lakes and hills, but as usual the weather is hazy.  When it…

Today, we encountered some rapids that were small enough to swim through. There was one rapid that everyone seemed to fall out of their rafts at. For a moment, the Kali Gandaki was littered with UWC students bobbing up and down in the water. Our guides, Brent and Gary, who were in kayaks, had a run for their money as they paddled around collecting everyone and returning them to their respective rafts! When the rafting was over, we had a five hour bus journey ahead of us. We made a toilet stop …

Pokhara, coming home

Walking down the streets in Pokhara, my watch, which is quite big, attrackts the attention of people often. Nothing special when a local, working in a gem stone shop, asked if he could see it. He invited me in the shop, where we had a cup of tea. After a while, some other men came in, and somewhere in the conversation, they started talking about there stones that had to be delivered in different countries around the world and because of the high taxes they were charged with, they were looking…

Truly a step back in time. Amazed and inspired, Kathmandu is just alive with culture and history. Every cobblestone stepped on, conjures images of life long ago.And then the realization that it really hasnt changed that much.

Mixed emotions. T will get better after today. Not only is her back still bad, but she’s a little ill in the stomach as well. She even threw-up last night a few times. Super. The downside? Leaving the Annapurna… and I can’t deny the fact that leaving the Annapurna means we’ll be leaving Nepal soon. When will the depression set in? Today, this final day in the Annapurna, we covered a lot of a distance. Langdi (circa 1800m) through to Naya Pul (1070m) only took us 3-4 hours at a…

The guide book says the trek to Annapurna Base Camp can be done in 10 days, best enjoyed in 14, but I did it in 8.  It was at once one of the most rewarding and painful things I have ever done.  Apparently, when you go trekking in the Himalayas, there are not just some mountains to climb, but some deep, very deep valleys to cross as well.  I thought we were gonna make a gradual ascension towards base camp, gaining height little by little each day.  But NO!&n…

Annapurna Trekking and the Lakeside

So we found ourselves in Pokhara...in the lakeside district which was so peaceful compared to loud and full on Kathmandu! It was from here we were to plan our trek, but found ourselves spending time in 'Once apon a time' restaurant watching movies and eating the yummiest food we have had for a while! The weather was a bit drizzly, and we were told it would be like that for most of the trek, so we werent too sure what to do....chill out or trek for 3 weeks???? hmmm. We decided to do the hard y…

Greetings from Pokhara!      I realized this morning that the reason I've been feeling sick (very dizzy, headache, tired) was due to the altitude sickness.   I forgot that can happen.  So once I realized it I began deep breathing and drinking more water and it seems to be mostly gone now.  This morning I got up very early for some reason, so I wanted to walk in Thamel.  I started out of the KTM Guesthouse to find that Thamel was compl…
