Plaza de Espanya Sevilla Reviews
Great place to spend an affternoon Nov 12, 2010
The Plaza de Espanya is a site in the Maria Luisa park and a site in its own right too.
Built in the 1920s for the World Fair, the architecture is very impressive. It does feel very European and retains a sense of Islamic influence too. The walls are heavily tiled with an array of elaborate tiles which collectively form these wonderful pictures. It reminds me a lot of Andalucia and Portugal in general.
The Plaza de Espanya is free to walk around, and is a five-minute walk away from the heart of Sevilla. Despite the central location, it is a calm and relaxing place to walk around. This is a great place to spend a sunny afternoon. You can hire a canoe and cruise the water by yourself, or I think I saw several elderly parties which had evidently hired a boat and driver. There are some sellers too, offering items such as jewellery and other touristy small gift items.
The site today houses government official, and I don’t think it’s possible to go in there unless you work there! However, the buildings are very beautiful, and the reflection on the water, tile work and green landscape nearby make this a very worthy place to visit.
