Plaza Santa Ana Reviews
Evening Chill Session Madrilleno Stylee Sep 17, 2009
SOme expensive places, some cheap places on this square.
Lively Vibrant and incrdibly pretty. Real locals come here for tapas in one of the many bars surrounding the square. you can still smoke inside in Spanish bars here so if you hate it, then sit outside. I especially like Lateral, but i have tried ALL the restuarants here... all pretty much a safe bet. You will see locals going in to the Teatro Espanol which is on the corner here, and a quite beautiful building, it looks ever so pretty lit up of a night. This is where you would find me poodling around most nights in Madrid. Only down-side is the recent addition of oriental massage people (hopefully soon to be moved on I am sure)... If you are in a sexy mood and/or its sunset, go to the large white hotel (ME Reina Victoria Madrid) buildings' back entrance to the top floor in the elevator and have a drink in the rooftop bar. Lovely. Part of the Madrid (Spain) 2009 travel blog |

Plaza Santa Ana is a nice, small square in the old Center of Madrid, not far from the Puerta del Sol. There are many restaurants in this area, and even more excellent tapas bars. The atmosphere on the square is wonderful. I found it a much better place to hang around at than for example the Plaza Mayor.
Though it is small, it is full of terraces, and it isn't to warm during summer. Somehow the air finds its way between the surrounding buildings to cool it down a little. There is much entertainment here, musicians, performers, etc. and a statue of Garcia Lorca as well. The area of Santa Ana has long been the favorite area of many writers like Cervantes, Quevedo and Lope de Vega. The theaters "Teatro de la Comedia" and "Teatro Español" are found here as well. After a brief siesta, we headed back to the Plaza Santa Ana for dinner and more sangria. Seriously, I don’t think there is anything better than sitting at a café in the plaza with sangria in hand and watching the people go by. I absolutely loved it there. We decided… Madrid, Day 2: Parque del Retiro and more time in Plaza Santa Ana |

Frankie suggested the square at the Plaza Santa Ana, popular with locals, and we were lucky to get a table s most of the cafes and bars were full even at that time, early by Madrid standards. A band started to form in the middle of the square, with various instuments… Madrid is just such a cool place |

Dinner was helt once again at the Plaza Santa Ana. This time, we dicided to stay in the Cerveceria, since it was a nice place and the restaurants we chose the two earlier days variated from 'just not bad' to 'terrible'. It turned out to be a wonderful choice! We had tinto… Plaza Santa Ana and King Juan |

Around 8 we went back to Plaza Santa Ana's “Cerveceria de Santa Ana ”, to spend the night. There was a strange group of people passing by (we believe it was a sect or something). The night before we saw them walking slowly in a row, holding each others shoulders, and they… Egyptian temples and Spanish fountains |

And after that we walked to Plaza Santa Ana (where the statue of Federico Garia Lorca is - see my blog introduction) to have dinner. First we drank Spanish wine on the terrace of la "Cerveceria Santa Ana" (review attached), later we found ourselves a restaurant on the same square. It wasn… Proxima Estacion: Puerta del Sol |
