Plaza Park Raceway, Visalia 1/5th mile dirt

Springtime in the San Joaquin Valley brings the midgets and micro sprint cars and small dirt track aficionados to this one-fifth mile clay oval dirt track for the fun and excitement of racing. Races are begun in early April after a two week period of what are called “Playdays”. These playdays give the drivers and mechanics time to bring their cars up to racing condition and several laps of experience to hone the skills of new drivers. There are 15 Friday night racing dates on the calendar for 2007 running through the end of September. Most races are twenty or thirty lap events and it is not uncommon to see at least one accident or flip during a race. Most events have at least a dozen entries so there is always plenty of traffic on this quite small track. The excitement of just watching is almost enough to make you want to get down there and try it.
