Plaza Las Delicias

This beautiful plaza is Ponce's main square. This town is located on Puerto Rico's southern coast, bordering the Caribbean Sea. This town has nice beaches and many interesting sites. It is one of the island's biggest and most important cities.

The Plaza Las Delicias is a beautiful sight. Many separate attractions are located throughout the square. One of them is the famous "Parque de Bombas", or fire station. The building's exterior is a nice combination of red and black stripes. It was built to resemble a magnificent Spanish mansion of the time. A mini-museum now occupies the structure's interior, showcasing firefighting technologies of the time. From there, two staircases go to the second floor, which is also part of the museum. This is a great attraction!

La Catedral de Ponce (Ponce's cathedral), stands right next to the Parque de Bombas. The facade is influenced by the French Neoclassical style, and painted white throughout. The inside is stunning, too.

Near the cathedral, there is a big fountain called "Fuente de los Leones" (Lion's Fountain). It is absolutely beautiful, especially at night when the water is illuminated by colored light. Four lions flank each corner of the large fountain. It's a great place to just sit back and relax. Two statues of famous Puerto Ricans stand nearby. One of them is of Juan Morel Campos, a very important composer who wrote many dances used in traditional Puerto Rican music today. The other is of Luis Muñoz Rivera, a famous politician back in the day, promoting the Independent Political Party. These statues have an air of magnificence to them...

One of the buildings surrounding the plaza has one of the best, traditional ice cream parlors on the island. It serves delicious flavors like coconut, passion fruit, and vanilla. This joint is a must to any traveler coming here!

This great plaza is simply amazing, and even more at night! It shows Ponce at its best!
