Sandy beach barrel break in shallow water about a mile away from Puerto Viejo. Good to check out if Salsa Brava and some of the other breaks in town aren't happening.

Given the shallow water in which the waves break, and the hollow powerfulness of them, they can be deceptively dangerous. Or perhaps I was just unlucky, but in any case, I ended up impaling my foot with my skag here. Doesn't seem to be a regular life guard on duty, but the advised strategy if you are injured here is to hop around here until someone with a first aid kit comes, then take a taxi to a clinic in the next town...
