Plates Italian Restuarant Tokyo Reviews
Poor Service, Average Food Aug 08, 2015
Very average Japanese / Italian restaurant in the Ark Hills complex. We were walking around the complex looking for a quick dinner option and decided on this place simply because it looked the most popular.
Unfortunately, the entire crowd was there to see a performance at the symphony hall next door, so within 5 minutes of sitting down the restaurant completely emptied and we were the only ones there.
We had a pizza margherita that was cooked in a wood fired oven, which wasn’t too bad. The service, however, was mixed. With the exception of our initial waiter, a younger guy, the staff seemed an odd combination of both surly and depressed. An older, overweight balding gentleman with a permanent scowl (who seemed to be the manager) was observed completely ignoring guests who were trying to get a table, even though the restaurant was completely empty. Given the high standards of service in Tokyo, this was pretty surprising.
This feels like a place that has only survived by virtue of its location.
