Planet Dive Anilao Reviews
Planet Dive Jul 20, 2008
The road out of Anilao is dominated by a lot of different resort most of them serving divers but there is also a couple more orientated towards non-divers. The place I stayed at Planet Dive is clearly a dive resort. It is located as the last of the long string of resorts - which is actually clearly stated in Lonely Planet. What Lonely Planet fails to mention is that this resort is indeed the last of the resorts and it is NOT walking distance from Anilao.
The fact that I thought the resort were only a couple of kilometres down the road led me to refuse to pay the tricycle drivers the amount they were asking for and started to walk instead - unfortunately Planet Dive is not walking distance from Aniloa when you are not carrying a backpack and bringing a backpack along don't really make it walking distance. Hence after a walking for a while I had to give up and wait for a jeepney. You kind of need to take a jeepney or a tricycle to the end of the road fortunately all tricycle and jeepney drivers know where Planet Dive is located.
The resort is located on a hill down towards the water which means people tend to spend all their time at the resort not to mention the city is 3 hours walk away from the resort. You do not need to eat at the restaurant but given the fact the food is good and very plentiful and there are no other restaurants within 3-5 miles you are likely to be eating all your meals here. And doesn't worry they will serve rice with every meal plus all you can eat of vegetables, meat and the fruit of the day.
One good thing about this resort compared to some of the other is the fact that there is a reef just of the stony beach at the resort. Hence you can just grab your snorkelling gear and go out and snorkel between the corals and fish. As you would imagine there is a dive shop at the resort so you can go out either by yourself from the shore or you can rent a boat and go to the more interesting places a bit further afield. Going on a week day will guarantee that the resort is quite which is good in some ways but unfortunately it can make diving very expensive because there will be no one else to share the cost of the boat rentals. Hence you are probably better of going in the weekend where people will come in from Manila and Taiwan/Hong Kong or with a couple of other divers who can help share the cost.
