Plachutta's Gasthaus zur Oper Vienna Reviews
Quality Viennese dishes in a quantity restaurant Apr 25, 2016
N48°12.211' E16°22.287' Plachutta's Gasthaus zur Oper is a very busy and high turnover restaurant, with dinning space in several dinning rooms at a premium. It is close to the Staatsoper, not very far from the Musikverein, and clearly not for romantic dining. Reservations inside are compulsory and the outside heated terrace functions as an overflow. Although we received an excellent table in a more quiet dinning room in March 2016, the whole entourage and the super fast cleaning and preparing of tables was unsettling. We questioned whether we would receive quality food in this quantity restaurant, with its new classic interior and wooden chairs.
Plachutta's Gasthaus zur Oper serves authentic Wiener schnitzels, made from cuts of veal and fried in the traditional manner until crispy golden brown. They are so confident about their quality; they provide the recipe to guests. Without any hesitations, we ordered from their limited menu Wiener schnitzel served with potato salad for €19,20. The second dish was roasted fillet of sea bass with grilled vegetables & parsley potatoes €18,90.
Our doubts about the quality of the food inside Plachutta's Gasthaus zur Oper disappeared immediately after tasting. The Wiener schnitzel was excellent prepared. We liked the potato salad very much. Although a long way from any sea, the sea bass was excellent too. As desert, the Kaiserschmarrn (cut up pancakes with icing sugar with homemade plum stew) for €8,60 was excellent too.
Plachutta's Gasthaus zur Oper is too busy for sumptuous dining, but if you happen to have tickets for the Staatsoper or Musikverein, Plachutta's Gasthaus zur Oper is a good start of the evening.
