Today was great. We settled into the little town of Placencia (population 600). We met this huge black guy Stan, from LA that set us up in his apartments on the beach here in town. Super nice guy, gave us a run down of everything little nuance of the town.
Then we walk…

Placencia, Belize
Me, Rob and Philippa set off from Hopkins at 7am on the road to Placencia further south in Belize. We had to get a bus to the cross roads outside Hopkins then flag down a bus on route to Placencia or Mango Creek were we could get a water taxi to travel the short distance to Place…

Well once we could cross Tikal off of our list we finally felt proper about leaving Guatemala. So we boarded the 5:00 am bus for Belize City and said goodbye to the country that had treated us so good (well, apart from the whole immigration-illegal alien-border hold up thing). We set of…

Well, I learned something about TravBuddy today. Do not try to tell your travel blog that you've stayed in one place for 3 days, for example from June 8-11, 2006. If you try to do this, TravBuddy will not load your carefully composed and rather lengthy entry. It will be …

From Belize City we caught the bus to Independence (via Belmopan and Dangriga). We met some really fascinating characters on the bus (fill in - HIV lady, other lady, Gilbert, Erin). From Independence we took the Hokey Pokey Water Taxi across the lagoon to Placencia which was a nice smooth 20 min. b…

5
days, 30 hours of traveling. In America, that'd get you from the east
coast to the west and then some, here, it got me like... less than
1,000 miles. From that town Livingston I hopped up to Belize in a boat
that was, ahem, not exactly sea-worthy in my opinion. But after zipping
along …

Mexico City, Mexico -› Xalapa, Mexico -› …
This is by far the most idyillic place we have been to so far. It was a tiny strip of houses which ran along the beach front. There were only foot paths so no cars or motor bikes. The houses were all wooden and brightly painted. When we arrived from Belize city it was like a blessing. I spent the e…

The beach is white sand…
