Placa de Espanya Jul 21, 2008
Placa de Espanya is situated at the crossing of Avinguda Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes and Avinguda del Paral-lel. This impressive square was the monumental entrance to the old fair quarters in the World fair of 1929.
A monumental fountain at the center of the square, with 3 statues on 3 sides, represent symbolically the waters of 3 seas which bathe coast of Spain : the Mediterranean, the Bay of Biscay and the Atlantic ocean.
Near fountain is also big Arena built in the 19th century with 26.000 seats (was under construction so we couldn't go inside).
And on the other side are 2 unusual bell towers - built in Venetian style - and lead to the wide Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina with National palace and Magic Fountain at the end.
One more of so many beautiful places in Barcelona worth to be seen :o)
