Plaça Reial, Barcelona, Spain
Plaça Reial Barcelona Reviews
Stroll among palm trees and Gaudi lampposts Mar 12, 2012
This is a typical Spanish plaza, very much like Plaza Mayor that most Spanish towns have. Instead of Plaza Mayor, Barcelona has Plaza Real.
It is just off La Rambla, in the Gothic quarter.
It's squared shaped plaza, with palm trees, lampposts designed by Gaudi, a beautiful fountain in the center and surrounded by many restaurants, hostels and night clubs.
Gaudi was commissioned by the city of Barcelona to build lampposts around the city, in the 1870s.
These lanterns in Plaza Real was his first work after graduation, in 1878.
