World's largest tar lake Mar 22, 2011
The Pitch lake is a 90-acre lake of asphault in southern Trinidad. It looks like a parking lot until you step on its spongy, yielding surface. The lake oozes, bubbles and burps, swallowing objects then spitting them back out. The lake surface looks like elephant skin, it's hard enough to walk on, but peel back the upper surface and it's sticky and fluid. The Rastafarian guide there has great knowledge of the lake and will show you around. One of the neat things he does is pull ribbons of tar up with a stick.
