Nos levantamos muy temprano, desayunamos y fuimos al centro comercial Playacar al lado del hotel, donde esta la oficina de Avis para recoger el coche. Nos dieron un Polo negro, no muy nuevo, con 44.000 km, que aqui con los baches y topes es bastante usado, pero se portó bien. Cambiamos 300 euros en el banco de Santander, que esta al lado mismo y ya partimos rumbo a los descubrimientos. Tomamos la carretera, que es autopista por el lado que solo te deja ir hacia la ciudad, y luego dimos vuelt...

we heard about the crowds at chitchen itza... but nothing could prepare us for what was about to happen. we arrived late in the afternoon, and went through the usual routine of locating some accomodation, closely followed by finding something to eat. we enjoyed a quiet night (more cards), and rose early to to beat the crowds to chitchen itza. first impressions were quite good.... not anyone else in the place. we opted for a tour, which turned to not be much chop (not good). but regardless ...

Nach sehr kurzer Nacht sind Jule und ich um 6.30 h in den Bus zur Ausgrabungsstaette nach Chichen Itza gefahren. das fruehe Aufstehen war zwar anstrengend, hat sich aber total gelohnt, da wir so dem Massentourismus, der bruetenden Mittagshitze und dem nachmittaeglichem Regenguss entgangen sind... We took off today for our excursion to Valladolid and surrounding archaeological sites.  It took us about two and a half hours to drive from Chunchucmil to Chichen Itza.  Bruce ,Dylan, chris, Emily, Lisa, Bill and I went.  The site is a far cry from Oxkintok.  The parking lot was filled with tour buses and the outside was lined with souvenir shops.  We arrived around 11:30am and it was already packed.  The entrance cost 85 pesos (35 to INAH, 50 to CULTUR).  ...
