I stayed at three different hostels before I found Pirwa. Cusco is a city where anyone with an extra bed will tell you they have a hostel, with some not so pleasant results. Pirwa Familiar is well maintained and hands down the best of all I've seen. Tragically it is up that massive hill on Carmen Alto, but you'll only have to struggle up there once with your backpack, right?

21 soles for a dorm room bed piled high with blanket, including breakfast (good ole bread!), free internet, a big tv with a small DVD collection and cable, full kitchen access and shared baths. Because not many people know about this hostel, the 2 bathrooms with amazing hot water (the only hot water in the entire city) were sufficient, but if the entire 10 room hostel is full, well i just can't imagine. the staff is so friendly.

you cannot go wrong at pirwa. check out the link, they have 4 locations in cusco. word to the wise: one staff member told me there had been robberies at the Corregidor location. also, the site says they lockers...but they dont.
