Pingyao Beef Reviews
Jul 07, 2007
When I told one of my Chinese coworkers that I was planning a trip to Pingyao, his only advice was to bring back some Pingyao Beef. His advice was good because this stuff is pretty tasty.
The streets of Pingyao are lined with shops and most of the ones selling Pingyao beef seem to be catering to the Chinese tour groups since most of the signs are Chinese only. Just look for something like 平遥牛肉 usually written vertically on the sides of the shop entrance.
The beef comes in little pouches and you buy it by weight. I got 20 pouches for a little over 10RMB. I would've gotten more if I'd realized how cheap they are.
To eat them, you just tear open the side of the pouch and squeeze out some of the beef. The meat is juicy and has delicious and somewhat spicy seasoning. I might go back to Pingyao sometime soon just to get more of these. Pingyao is a great place to visit anyway, and the Pingyao beef just puts it over the top.
