Cool beach, and I went on a rainy day. Theres a HUGE mountain/rock sticking up out of the beach you can hike up, which gives you some decent views. Thats what I think Piha is most known for. The beach also offers good beginners surfing, huge beach area with nice sand, and a cool area to the south with interesting cliffs and rock formations. Wish I had more time to explore it but a very nice beach. Actually I was there exactly one year ago today on St Pattys day, weird.

…shore of Auckland, where there was an excellent lookout point at Davenport, and after that go to a great surfing place, Piha Beach and had lunch there. The view was amazing, and the drive to Piha was exciting (starting to get used to driving on the wrong side of the road!) After a walk on the beach, where they've got black! sand, we went to vist… Kia Ora, welcome to New Zealand!

This lump of rock lies in the surf at Piha beach and is an important place for the Maori culture in this region. We couldn’t climb all the way to the top, about three quarters up the path was sealed off because of danger of falling rocks. The view from the point we reached… New Zealand in two days
