Located in the rural mountains of the Alajuela Province, Piedades Norte is just a short bus ride from the city of San Ramon. The area has beautiful scenery of lush forests, farmland, creeks and ponds dotting the mountainsides.

Piedades Norte is a popular place for volunteers to help with construction on homes, schools and clinics in Costa Rica. Local volunteers and organizations such as Costa Rica-Canada come together to assist locals and help working travelers get a glimpse of culture in the countryside.

The area is also believed to be the birthplace of national hero Jose "Don Pepe" Figueres.

Well, i've always been proud of my heritage and gracious for the life i've been granted. So when U.S. Independence Day rolled around it put Blake and i in great moods. All we wanted to do was celebrate. But Costa Rica obviously doesn't recognize the 4th of July as a national holiday, so we had to work, haha.
