Picton is the gateway to the South Island, the Interislander Ferry from Wellington arrives in Picton after a delightful, beautifully scenic cruise through the Marlborough Sounds.
Visitors are greeted in Picton by a cute small town full of interesting cafes built along the waterfront overlooking a lovely foreshore park with children play areas, and seats to sit and dream on, and many small boats bobbing out on the harbour and a large Marina full of launches and yachts.
From Picton it is a short 26 km drive to Blenheim the main town in the Provence of Marlborough where there are dozens of wineries to visit.
