Picas Lima Reviews
Great cocktails and cool atmosphere at Picas, all the senses... Mar 15, 2010
Like its slogan suggests "all the senses", this place is a whole experience.
This place is owned by a successful chef who works in another restaurant, but wanted to open his own place. This place wouldn't be a restaurant, but a lounge. He decided not to go far away from the restaurant where he works, since this place is not even 1 block away. Who would have wanted to move from this charming area? It's located right under the famous "Puente de los Suspiros" (Sigh Bridge) in the bohemian area of Barranco.
The location is great and so the decoration. They decided to go with old looking furniture, high chairs (which might be a bit uncomfortable - but who cares after 2 drinks) and tables at the terrace. This area is great, specially for summer evenings. Inside it's more like a lounge, very cozy seats, high ceilings, cool music and decoration.
They are also a restaurant, but we didn't come here for the food, so we got the drink menu, which has several options for pisco cocktails, besides the traditional ones. We tried:
-Sunset Barranquino: pisco (similar to brandy), tumbo and orange juice (sour). Refreshing
-La Ermita: pisco, tamarind, orange and passion fruit juice. Refreshing too
Then we decided to try something sweet:
-El Rosal (the rosebush): pisco, strawberry, lime juice and passion fruit fume
-Chicha sour: pisco, simple syrup, eggwhite and chicha morada. The chicha morada is a soft drink made of purple corn.
All the cocktails were very good and new for me, except from the chicha sour.
Oh well, if we were drinking, having something to eat was a good idea and we ordered the: "Croquetas a la huancaina", which was based on the typical Papa a la Huancaina. There were potato balls stuffed with Parmesan cheese & bacon. They came with a dipping sauce made of cheese, milk and yellow pepper. Very tasty!!!
The atmosphere of this place was really cool, a bit vintage but with a touch of modernity. For example: on every table there was a small device with buttons to call the waiter. The waiters wear a special watch that let them know which table is calling, hahaha.
Furthermore, they have an alcohimeter, so you would know if you are still allowed to drive and if you are not they have a driver service. A driver would come for you and your car. Awesome!
Definitely, this is a place to try if you are in Barranco!
