Piazzale Michelangelo. Feb 17, 2017
Piazzale Michelangelo is a very large square laid out in 1865. It is situated on a hill on the south bank of the Arno river and the old core. It was built as part of the city walls restoration .

From there you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Florence. You can spot the main sights of the town and also some remnants of the ancient walls. So a visit to this square is a good way to get your bearings.

You can go to piazzale Michelangelo by bus (take n. 13 outside the main train station) or by foot.

A spectacular view of Florence Sep 29, 2012
The Piazzale Michelangelo is a terraced scenic overlook affording a view over all of the historic center of Florence, the Arno River, and the country beyond it to Fiesole. Truly, this is a postcard view!

Piazzale Michelangelo was built in 1869 when Florence was the capital of the new united Italy and many urban renewal projects were underway. I'm glad they included this one! It's the only place where you can have a full view of Florence Cathedral and of Santa Croce. A bronze copy of Michelangelo's David was installed on the terrace in 1873.

To reach Piazzale Michelangelo one can walk up from the Oltrarno district or come by road from the Ponte San Niccolò and the Viale Michelangelo. There is no charge for the view, but there are plenty of souvenir stands here!

Do not forget to bring your camera!

Panoramic View of the City Feb 05, 2011
This is a little bit out of the way, but a beautiful view over the whole city. You could also go to the top of the Duomo and get a nice view as well! (Piazalle Michelangelo is free of course, a few euros to the top of the Duomo). Enjoy Florence, it is beautiful.

Great views of Florence Oct 14, 2010
Built in the latter half of the nineteenth century, Piazzale Michelangelo is a very famous square situated just outside the city centre of Florence. The square provides some panoramic views of the city, and famous sites such as Il Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio and Santa Croce are easily evident on the skyline.

The square also has a copy of Michelangelo’s David made in Bronze. The statue is a pretty faithful replica but definitely lacks the awe-inspiring quality of the original marble one.

The square is very large and accommodates a rather larger amount of people very easily. It is possible to get a bus near here, or there is rather large car park near by, or you can take the long uphill walk!

If you are in Florence, this square is well worth visiting just for the views alone.

Great panoramic view of Florence Mar 04, 2007
Piazzale Michelangelo is situated on top of a hill. To get there, you have to walk a little bit, but it is absolutely worth to do it.

When you arrive there, you can see panoramic view of the whole city. It is really stunning. From there you can admire some of the most important sites of Florence such as the Duomo, the Palazzo Vecchio, the Arno Valley and the Old Bridge.

At the center of the square is located a monument in honor to Michelangelo decorated with bronze reproductions of some of his most famous Florence masterpieces. David is at the center.

A wonderful place.

A square for the Master - Piazzale Michelangelo Jun 21, 2006
Built in honor to Michelangelo, is located in the top of a hill, which makes you able to get a gorgeous view of the city.

This place is very well known because of the panoramic views of Florence and the Arno valley. This square is a popular spot with locals and tourists.

You can find copies of Michelangelo’s works, including David and the Medici chapel sculptures from San Lorenzo.

Although is a long climb to arrive there, it's a nice spot to enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the city, so every single step is 100% worth.
