Piazza dei Miracoli Pisa Reviews

1589 Vincenzo Viviani publish a biography of Galileo claiming he had made experimented by dropping balls from the Leaning Tower.
Fact about Galileo’s experiments: “It is not certain if Galileo actually made experiments at the tower. But if he did – he did manage to disprove Aristotle’s old theorem that a heavier object falls faster than a lighter object. It is certain Galileo at least made a thought experiment to prove that the same object will fall at the same speed if travelling through the same medium. The actual experiment was performed in 1568 in Delft Netherlands.”
The central square at the Dome church in Pisa is the most important attraction in the city. The square is where the Leaning Tower is located – which has ensured the square world fame. But even if the Leaning Tower had just been a regular bell tower next to the church – this square would definitely rank as one of the most (if not the most) impressive squares in all of Tuscany.
On the square are three main buildings. The cathedral, the Leaning Tower and the baptistery. These buildings are the centre pieces of the square and they are surrounded by a nice grassy area. Around the square are other buildings – which is sort of nice but when they compete for attention with the other buildings they look a bit dull.
The square is pretty much the only place in Pisa where you constantly will encounter large hordes of tourist standing around doing different tai chi exercises when they need their photo in front of the Leaning Tower. The rest of the city is pretty much deserted tourist wise – at least this is the case when you come in the off season.
Access to the square itself is free - but entry into many of the buildings and museums charge an entry fee. There are different kind of tickets and combo-tickets to the different attractions at the central ticket office.
