The main square Dec 27, 2009
The main square in Bologna is a vibrant meeting spot for the Bolognese people. The square is surrounded by a host of restaurants and cafe's, however they can be quite expensive. You're paying for location.

Directly to the front of the piazza is the Neptune Fountain. (Make sure you look out for Neptune's finger...let's just say if you observe his wand from a particular angle it looks like something else!) This large monument is normally a popular hangout for young people during the evenings.

During the summer months the main square is host to many social gathering, for instance concerts and parties. In addition, they construct a large outdoor cinema screen that screens various foreign movies. This is completely complimentary!

At the rear you can see the Duomo. It is definitely worth a little look inside. You can also wander around the linking side streets and find a bunch of unique market stores and delicious foods.

In the center are the so-called whispering walls. One person can whisper something into one of the walls and the other person is able to hear this from the complete other side. Try it out! Oh and apparently crossing the square in a diagonal direction is bad luck...
