The site of Ceausescu's last speech Aug 12, 2011
This is where Ceausescu gave his last speech and many people died in the revolution. His speech was delivered from the balcony of the former Central Committee of the Communist Party building, which now houses the Senate. In this piata, you will see memorials commemorating the events of 1989 and those who died in the fall of communism in Romania. One of these memorials is right in front of the Senate building of a humpty-dumpty-like broken man pieced back together again. You will also see the incomprehensible rebirth memorial, an obelisk piercing something resembling a spherical woven basket. There are several benches available to get off your feet and take a look around. Knowing what happened here, not that long ago, was a very moving experience. Definitely worth seeing.
Your guess is as good as mine.
